Broadcasts

Broadcasts are messages that get sent to more than just a single person. There are two types, the one you use could vary depending on the size of the audience you’re contacting.

Mini Broadcasts

Mini broadcasts are used for broadcasts that will reach 50 or fewer contacts.

When sending a Mini broadcast, you select your audience by individually selecting members of your contact list. This differs from mass broadcasts, where you select your audience based on which Tags are applied to them or which Segments they are a part of.

Mass Broadcasts

Mass Broadcasts are the standard way of sending broadcasts through TxtSquad. Instead of selecting your audience by individually selecting each contact, with a Mass Broadcast you select Tags or Segments to build your audience.

Sending a Broadcast

To send a broadcast, first go to the Broadcasts page from the navigation pane on the left. Once you’re there, you’ll see two buttons near the top of the screen: Create a Mini Broadcast and Create a Mass Broadcast.

Click the button that corresponds to what type of broadcast you would like to create.

Creating a Broadcast

Step 1: Compose Message

The first step of creating either type of broadcast is to give it a name. These names are just for your records, so that you can find this broadcast again in the future. The name will not be sent to your contacts.

Next, compose your message in the box provided. Below the text box you’ll find buttons that will allow you to add links, template fields, emojis, scripts, or images to your broadcast.

On the bottom right of the text box, there is an indicator to show how many SMS credits the broadcast will use per contact.

Once you’ve composed your message, click Next to continue to the Select Audience Step

Step 2: Audience Selection (Mini Broadcast)

If you’re creating a mini broadcast, you will see a table with all of your contacts. From here, select the people you’d like to receive the broadcast. Note that you can only select up to 50 people in a mini broadcast; to send broadcasts to more people at once, use a Mass Broadcast.

When you’ve made your selection, click Finish Contact Selection to move on to the next step.

Step 2: Audience Selection (Mass Broadcast)

f you are creating a mass broadcast, you will see lists of your segments and your tags. From here, select which group or groups of contacts who you would like to send the broadcast. You can select segments or tags, or a combination of the two. Don’t worry if a contact belongs to multiple selected groups, they will only receive the message once.

Once you’ve selected your audience, click Next to continue to the next step.

Step 3: Finalize

At this step, you can preview the message you’re going to send, set the time it will be sent, and see the total SMS credits that the broadcast will use to reach your audience.

The date and time your message will be sent will default to the current time, but you can schedule the broadcast to go out in the future if you’d like. If you leave it unchanged, the message will send out once you’ve finished setting up the broadcast.

Below the date and time picker you will see the estimated completion time. Messages take time to be sent through the system, so while the first recipients of your broadcast will receive the message right away, it will take up until the estimated completion time before all messages are delivered to all contacts.

You have the option to send a copy of the broadcast just to yourself to see how it looks on your own device when you receive it by clicking the Send Sample Message button above the broadcast preview.

Once you have selected a time, click Next to confirm your broadcast.

Click Start Broadcast to send the broadcast (or schedule it, if it’s intended to go out in the future).
